President’s Charity of Choice Announcement

Oakville, Ontario, June 2010 - The Oakville Milton & District Real Estate Board [OMDREB] Board President Jeff Mahannah announced on Wednesday June 23, 2010.at the OMDREB Board office a new program to support our community - The President’s Charity of Choice.

“The President’s Charity of Choice is a brand new initiative by The Oakville, Milton and District Real Estate Board, which permits the current President of The Oakville, Milton and District Real Estate Board to select a shelter-based organization within our community as a recipient of the Board’s charitable efforts,” announces Jeff Mahannah.  “The first organization chosen is Habitat for Humanity Halton in support of their Oakville build, where two families will work with Habitat volunteers to build their new homes at the corner of Elmwood and Margaret in Oakville. I am very proud to announce we have pledged to raise $10,000 for the build.”

To support our pledge, we are very pleased and excited to announce the first President’s Charity of Choice Gala in support of Habitat for Humanity Halton taking place on Friday, November 12, 2010.

Habitat for Humanity Halton is a community-based, non-profit, faith-based organizations working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. In spite of the affluence that prevails throughout the Halton communities, a large percentage of residents do not share this good fortune.  HFHH has estimated that 1,200 Halton residents become homeless each year due to the lack of affordable housing.  They are seeking to mitigate this gap through a series of initiatives that allows low-income families to attain and retain decent, simple affordable housing. Their mission is to use their knowledge, skills, community relationships, volunteers and other resources to create and promote safe and affordable home ownership options to families that need it most.

The OMDREB organizational mandate places an emphasis on encouraging all Members to support shelter-based initiatives and OMDREB REALTORS® have an ongoing commitment to give back to the communities they are fortunate enough to serve. Local REALTORS® are committed to their involvement with Habitat for Humanity Halton and consider it their privilege to be involved in the community they are fortunate enough to serve.
