How Joining a Board Task Force or Committee Can Benefit You

If you love your job as a REALTOR® and want a say in your industry, join a Committee at OMDREB.

Sandra Gilraine knows all about participating. The energetic sales representatives with Royal LePage Real Estate Services, Ltd. in Oakville previously headed up a flash mob project in 2011. Forty Board Members and staff danced and constructed a shed in just over three minutes in downtown Oakville’s Town Square to raise funds and awareness for Habitat for Humanity® Halton.

But Sandra has a serious side as well. She’s a member of five OMDREB Committees/Task Forces’: Arbitration, Leadership Development, MLS®/IT, Tradeshow and Vision.

Sandra Gilraine gives back.

“I love being a REALTOR®. I want to do my bit by making it the best profession that it can be.”

It’s not easy, Sandra acknowledges. Like other Board Committee Members, she has an active and busy business doing what she does – helping area real estate sellers and buyers realize their dreams – “sometimes you wish there were 34 hours in a day instead of 24,” she says. “But the chance to make a difference and to meet and network with other REALTORS® who feel the same is worth it. For all the negatives – and make no mistake, there are negatives – I get every bit as much out of it as I put in.

“On top of that, it can be professionally rewarding and really fun. What else could you ask for?”

Her advice: Get involved.

Contact a member of OMDREB’s Board of Directors or the Board’s Executive Assistant. You could also ask any REALTOR® you might know who’s involved at the Board. And don’t forget, there are lots of ways to get involved at home or even at the provincial and national-levels.

“It’s wonderful to be part of organized real estate at the local level, but if you’re so inclined, you can also get involved at the provincial level, as an OREA committee member, or the national level, through CREA.”

Getting involved locally is a great place to start.

“This is such an amazing industry. How can you not want to contribute your time and talents and give back?”

It may be the best move you could make.
