  • June 10, 2014

Oakville, ON, June 10, 2014 – The Oakville, Milton and District Real Estate Board (OMDREB) awarded four $2,500 scholarships to students from Oakville and Milton-area high schools on Tuesday afternoon.

The award recipients, Josie Luetke (St. Thomas Aquinas), Sofia Del Vasro (White Oaks), Tomiwa Ademidun, (Bishop Reding), and Sydney Newton (Oakville Trafalgar) were selected based on their written or video essay on one of three topics associated with Habitat for Humanity Halton, our President’s Charity for 2014.

Students were given a choice of topics that included affordable housing in our community, the relationship between home ownership and financial literacy and what effect substandard housing has on families and communities.

“Affordable home ownership is an issue that is prevalent in not only our communities, but communities around the world. This is a cause that is very much aligned with the mission of OMDREB’s President’s Charity, which is to support shelter based charities in our communities,” said Jack McCrudden, President.

“On behalf of Habitat for Humanity, the scholarship selection committee, the Board and our members, I’d like to congratulate all of the winners for their thought provoking submissions on this topic."

OMDREB has had a long standing relationship with Habitat for Humanity Halton and has made a commitment to helping this world renowned charity, by not only raising funds, but by also raising awareness. The student essays and videos will be used in helping create awareness for Habitat’s vision of “A world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live”.
