Lighthouse Garden of Hope Groundbreaking

Oakville, ON, July 9, 2009 - The Oakville, Milton and District Real Estate Board [OMDREB] is pleased to announce success with the Garden of Hope groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday July 9, 2009. A special announcement was made during the ceremony which revealed the names of the Fountain Sponsor as RE/MAX ABOUTOWNE Broker Augy Carnovale and his wife Anna Carnovale. This donation of $5,000 will be used to construct the centerpiece of the garden in the form of a large fountain. Augy and Anna presented The OMDREB Halton Lighthouse Shelter Garden Project with the cheque in the memory of former business partner and close friend Robert Hunter, to whom the fountain will be dedicated.

OMDREB has raised over $15,000 towards the Halton Lighthouse Shelter Garden Project and is continuing to raise funds as well as awareness for the Garden of Hope.

The Garden of Hope was evolved through a direct request from the Director of the Halton Lighthouse Shelter Rachel Sawatzky to provide a sanctuary for those needing the services of the shelter and to remember those who have passed through the Shelter’s doors and that have taken their own lives.

The ceremony brought together the OMDREB REALTORS® responsible for raising funds towards the garden project, as well as Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, OMDREB Board President Dianna Morrison, Majors Wendy and Dan Broome from the Salvation Army and the Halton community at large. At the event, the design by David Gaze Landscaping was also revealed and formally released for public view. The design principle adopted is a circle and cross design, a concept which signifies hope for the future, a meeting place to rest and a place to capture ones thoughts for the Garden of Hope.

The OMDREB organizational mandate places an emphasis on encouraging all Members to support shelter-based initiatives and OMDREB REALTORS® have an ongoing commitment to give back to the communities they are fortunate enough to serve. OMDREB continues to encourage all community members to get involved with The Halton Lighthouse Shelter and the Garden of Hope in an effort to bring beauty and tranquility into the lives of those who need it most.
