CREA win at Competition Tribunal

CREA learned late yesterday afternoon that the Competition Tribunal has ruled in favour of CREA on an important issue that was brought forward by the Commissioner of Competition. A hearing took place in November, with the central issue being whether CREA’s Rules, specifically the provisions which prohibit the display of seller contact information or advertisement of a private sale on a webpage linked directly from REALTOR.ca, are discriminatory contrary to the 2010 Consent Agreement. Justice Rennie found that CREA’s Rules do not contravene the 2010 Consent Agreement.

CREA has also been awarded costs, to be determined.

While the Commissioner of Competition still has the ability to appeal the decision, we welcome this positive outcome.
