In a press release dated January 12, the Town of Milton announced the advancement of the Sherwood Community Centre and Library.

It stated that the Town of Milton’s Committee of the Whole met on January 11 and approved a staff report and Component Study confirming the facility components, space allocations, and capital cost estimates for the community centre.

According to the release, the facility will be located on the north side of Main Street West, adjacent to Sherwood District Park.

The centre can include many components, including, "A branch library; a twin pad arena; an aquatic centre (a 25-metre, six-lane pool and a leisure/therapeutic pool); an active living studio, an older adult activity area (lounge, activity room and/or small kitchen along with access to shared spaces with the centre); and multi-purpose space. Other components may be considered during future phases of the planning process. Outdoor recreation facilities on site may also be considered but are not included in the current cost estimates."

“On behalf of Milton Council, we are looking forward to collaborating with the Milton Public Library in this joint community centre,” said Town of Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. “As planning for the facility progresses, our main goal will be to meet the recreation, leisure and cultural needs of our growing and changing community.”

The budget for the Sherwood Community Centre and Library is an estimated $50 million, with the opening anticipated for late summer or fall 2018.
