MLTT - Oakville Candidate Positions

As reported earlier this month following the Oakville Chamber of Commerce mayoral debate, the land transfer tax unexpectedly became an issue in the Town during this municipal election.

The incumbent candidate, Mayor Rob Burton, would not dismiss the idea of gaining revenue through the Municipal Land Transfer Tax (MLTT) should it be granted by the provincial government. Candidates John McLaughlin and Gordon Brennan would not adopt the MLTT. Greg Warchol and Mary Kennedy did not respond to the issue.

To help understand the potential position of the future Town Council, The Oakville, Milton and District Real Estate Board contacted all registered and certified candidates seeking election as Town Councillor and Town and Regional Councillor in the Town of Oakville and asked:

Do you support a municipal land transfer tax for Oakville should the province provide the option?
