OMDREB Celebrates Dual Triumphs With Members of Parliament at Milton Housing Accelerator Fund Announcement and Housing Roundtable Discussion on January 22

  • January 23, 2024

MILTON, ON, JANUARY 23, 2024 – The Oakville, Milton and District Real Estate Board (OMDREB) applauds the significant actions of two Members of Parliament within its jurisdiction, solidifying their commitment to addressing housing needs within our communities by securing housing-related funding, and by continuing discussions that will help spark innovative solutions to issues currently faced.

On Monday, January 22, Milton MP Adam van Koeverden, alongside representatives from the Town of Milton, announced the receipt of over $22.4 million from the federal government through the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF). This financial injection will play a pivotal role in bolstering the town's housing commitments, promoting affordability, and ensuring a better quality of life for future residents. Through its lobbying efforts, OMDREB encouraged the Town of Milton to apply for the funds when the HAF application window was announced. OMDREB commends the Town’s representatives in listening to its community partners by securing the HAF, and thanks MP van Koeverden for the invitation to the important announcement.

On the same day, representatives from OMDREB and the REALTORS® Association of Hamilton-Burlington (RAHB) engaged in a constructive conversation with Oakville North-Burlington MP Pam Damoff to strategize and plan for the upcoming second meeting of the Halton Regional Housing Roundtable, which OMDREB first helped to create in September 2023.

This collaborative initiative accelerates discussions on housing challenges, explores innovative solutions, and enhances coordination among stakeholders at all levels. The second roundtable meeting aims to be a catalyst for transformative policies that address the broader housing issues faced by communities across the Halton Region and beyond.

Through effective government relations, OMDREB advocates on behalf of REALTOR® members by navigating the complex landscape of public policy and regulatory frameworks, while influencing legislation and decision-making processes that directly impact our industry. In doing so, OMDREB establishes a voice that enables us to help shape policies that align with the objectives and goals of members, while promoting economic stability and contributing to the overall well-being of our communities.
